Armed Robbers Attack Security Officers At A Project Site In Ofankor.
Armed robbers have attacked workers and security officers at the railway bridge site on the Ofankor-Nsawam road project. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Ofankor railway bridge section of the road, as reported by Abdulai Mahama, the Senior Project Manager for the project.
Mr. Mahama detailed that the security officers were assaulted after confronting the robbers who had arrived to steal from a broken-down truck from Burkina Faso. The robbers tied up two security officers and two individuals who were in the truck, making off with money and mobile phones.
“The head of internal security informed me that a foreign truck had broken down in that section. Such breakdowns often become targets for robbers seeking to loot the trucks. Around 12:45 am, a black Toyota Camry approached the location and the security personnel,” Mr. Mahama stated. He noted that these incidents are frequent whenever there is a breakdown on the Ofankor stretch.
The case has been reported to the Ofankor police, and investigations are currently underway to apprehend the robbers.
The said road project is a significant infrastructure endeavor, spanning 33.4 kilometers and forming part of the Accra-Kumasi road network. Construction on this project began in 2022 and includes the development of four interchanges and flyovers at key points: Amasaman, Kpobiman, Medie, and Nsawam Junction.
