Tragic: 2 dead, 23 injured as Sprinter bus crashes into a tree.

A tragic event unfolded along the Winneba-Apam highway when a Mercedes Sprinter bus, bearing the registration number GT 5873-09, lost control and crashed into a tree near Gomoa Simbrofo. The harrowing accident left 23 individuals injured and resulted in the suspected deaths of two others.

Eyewitnesses and one of the passengers recounted the frightening sequence of events leading up to the crash. The bus, which was en route from Accra to Takoradi, encountered a dire situation when one of its rear tires suddenly burst. This unexpected rupture caused the vehicle to somersault and ultimately crash into a tree standing in its path.

Prompt action by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, stationed in Apam, was crucial. They received the distress call at 0711 hours and swiftly arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations amidst the wreckage. Their immediate response was instrumental in managing the chaotic aftermath of the accident.

The collaborative efforts of the Fire Service and the National Ambulance Service resulted in the successful rescue and transport of the 23 injured victims. These individuals were rushed to various medical facilities for urgent treatment. Six of the injured were conveyed to the Winneba Trauma Hospital, while the remaining 17, including the vehicle’s mate, were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Apam for comprehensive medical attention. The deceased were also taken to St. Luke’s Hospital.
