The family of the late Nigerian actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has revealed the detailed plans for his funeral, which will be held in his hometown of Amuri, Enugu State, on June 28. The funeral arrangements, spread over five days, will include various events to honor his memory.
Beginning with a tribute march on June 25 in his hometown, the commemoration will continue with a candlelight procession and live entertainment night, dubbed “Mr Ibu’s Night,” on June 26. The following day, June 27, a wake-keeping ceremony will be held at his family compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the burial and funeral service on June 28.
The series of events will conclude on June 30 with a thanksgiving service in church, where family, friends, and well-wishers will come together to celebrate his life.
Mr Ibu’s passing on March 2, at the age of 62, marked the end of an era in Nigerian cinematic industry. Despite battling illness for months and undergoing multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs, his comedic genius and iconic performances in over 200 Nollywood movies have left an indelible mark on the industry.
Renowned for his ability to evoke laughter with his facial expressions and physical comedy, Mr Ibu’s legacy as a beloved entertainer will be cherished by fans for generations to come.
