28 years old Diana Yaago sentenced to imprisonment for drug possession
“A 28-year-old woman, Diana Yaago, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Asamankese Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams, for possessing narcotic drugs, as per Section 37(1) and 2(b) of Narcotic Control Act 2020(Act 1019). Additionally, Diana Yaago was fined 10,000 Penalty Units (¢120,000), with a default option of three years imprisonment, all sentences to run concurrently.
The prosecution, represented by the Akwatia Police Command, stated that Yaago, a trader residing in Wenkyi, was apprehended by police officers from Akyem-Wenkyi on June 24, 2022, at approximately 5:35 am.
Acting on intelligence, the officers raided Yaago’s residence and discovered twenty-one plain polythene wrappers containing white rocky substances, and one hundred and forty blue paper wrappers containing brown powdery substances, concealed in a small plastic container.
Yaago admitted ownership of the exhibits during interrogation and was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation. The seized substances were sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory in Accra for testing, and the results, received on September 15, 2022, confirmed exhibit A as cocaine (2.6705g) and exhibit B as heroin (14.2128g).
Following a thorough investigation, Yaago was charged and brought before the court for trial.”
