A/R: Woman, 55, kills her 76-year-old mother for being a “witch’
A seemingly peaceful Sunday in Abuakwa Asonomaso, Ashanti Region, turned horrific after a daughter allegedly stabbed her mother to death. The incident, rooted in suspected witchcraft accusations, has shaken the community.
Joyce Boateng, 55, is accused of fatally stabbing her 76-year-old mother, Afia Sarpomaah. According to reports, Boateng claimed a pastor instilled the belief that Sarpomaah was a witch responsible for her problems. This alleged manipulation fueled a violent act that has left a family shattered and a community mourning.
Hon. Isaac Adu Boateng, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed the incident to OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng. He revealed details about the tragic event, stating he received a distress call and rushed to the scene.Upon arrival, he learned that authorities had already apprehended the suspect.
Hon. Boateng further disclosed that Boateng confessed to the crime and pinned the blame on a pastor who convinced her of her mother’s witchcraft. The desperation caused by this manipulation allegedly led Boateng to take her mother’s life.
The aftermath of this tragedy is two-fold. The body of the deceased, Afia Sarpomaah, now rests at Afari Hospital’s morgue. Meanwhile, Joyce Boateng is in police custody receiving medical treatment after reportedly attempting suicide by ingesting weedicide following the attack.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from manipulation and false beliefs. As the community grieves and authorities investigate further, questions remain about the manipulative pastor’s identity and influence.
