Driver arrested for abandoning truck on railway line, causing train accident.
In a shocking turn of events, a Hyundai truck driver has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly abandoning their vehicle on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line, leading to a devastating train accident on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations by the police reveal that the suspect driver was not attending to the truck, which was left unattended on the railroad, causing a newly acquired Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train from Poland to collide with it. Although the driver’s identity has not been released, the police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
According to the Ministry of Railways Development, the train was conducting a test run when it struck the unattended vehicle, which was parked on a bend, at around 12:10 p.m. Despite the emergency braking system being applied immediately, the train was unable to come to a complete stop before colliding with the vehicle.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities resulting from the accident, but the driver’s cabin suffered significant damage, and the truck was completely destroyed. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and responsibility on our roads and railways.
The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
