Elections are not ‘do-or-die’ affair- NCCE
The Ahafo Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Eric Adu, has strongly advised Ghanaians not to view elections as a “do-or-die” affair but rather as a democratic opportunity to elect competent leaders. Speaking on the theme of “Tolerance” at an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting organized by the NCCE at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Mr. Adu called on citizens to contribute to a peaceful election process on December 7, 2024. He urged voters to select visionary and patriotic leaders who are committed to national development.
A Call to Avoid Violence and Respect Democratic Processes
“We should endeavour to cope with and accept our human differences and move on with our lives peaceably,” Mr. Adu emphasized, encouraging Ghanaians to promote tolerance in the political space.
Tano North Municipal Director of the NCCE, Joseph Oduro Buabin, highlighted the importance of engaging all election stakeholders in dialogue to maintain the region’s prevailing peace. He stressed that a peaceful atmosphere is essential for selecting a capable government that can drive progressive development.
Participants at the meeting were educated on various topics, including the impact of money in politics, and the dangers of misinformation and disinformation. During an open forum, many attendees called for increased police and military presence at polling stations to ensure law and order on election day. They also urged political parties to deploy well-trained, credible, and responsible agents to oversee the electoral process.
Representatives from different political parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting violence-free elections, ensuring a safe environment for all voters.
