Keta Municipal Hospital gets Renal Unit
The Keta Municipal Hospital has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Renal Dialysis Centre to alleviate the severe challenges kidney patients face in accessing dialysis treatment. This crucial healthcare facility was made possible through the generous funding of Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, the esteemed ‘Dufia’ of Anyako-Konu and Paramount Chief of the Amugo-Vego Traditional Area in the Volta Region.
During the inauguration, Togbi Gligui emphasized the centre’s role in enhancing healthcare delivery, stating it would be a place where compassion meets action. He urged the community to unite in ensuring that no one should suffer the hardships of kidney disease alone.
Quoting Dr. Paul Farmer, a renowned medical anthropologist and physician, Togbi Gligui said, “The idea that some lives matter less is a root of all that is wrong with the world. These words inspire me to continue this vital work.”
One of the primary objectives of the newly established unit is to symbolize a future where everyone, irrespective of their circumstances, has access to quality healthcare and the support they need.
Togbi Gligui expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of his wife, Mama Tenge, his children, and the medical professionals who worked tirelessly to bring the unit to fruition. He also urged the hospital staff and management to maintain the facility properly to fulfill its intended purpose.
Dr. Emmanuel Kona, the Keta Municipal Director of Health, and Dr. Kofi Karikari Bonsu, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, who received the facility on behalf of the staff, assured that the unit would be utilized effectively to achieve the desired outcomes.
Three highly trained doctors have been assigned to provide services at the unit, which is the first of its kind in the Southern belt and the second in the Volta Region.
