We will ban government officials from applying for scholarships – Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced that under his administration, all government appointees and politically exposed individuals will be excluded from receiving national scholarships.
Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto launch on Saturday, August 24, Mahama criticized the current NPP-led administration for mismanaging scholarship programs intended for the nation’s underprivileged. He called for substantial reforms to ensure that scholarships are distributed fairly and transparently, without favoritism.
“Government scholarships have been plagued by ‘kalabule,’ meaning deceit. We want to streamline the process,” Mahama asserted.
The NDC flagbearer emphasized that the disqualification of politically-exposed individuals and government appointees would open up opportunities for marginalized members of society to access quality education.
“No political appointee should apply for these scholarships; they must pay. Scholarships should be reserved for underprivileged children who truly cannot afford it,” Mahama insisted.
