Gini Wijnaldum shares a strong connection with Ghana through his former step father and former footballer , George Boateng . George Boateng is currently the assistant coach of the Black Stars . He represented the Netherlands in his playing days .
Georginio Wijnaldum used to carry the name Boateng as his surname until George Boateng and his mother split . He then dropped the name Boateng and took after his Mother’s surname “Wijnaldum” which he still bares .
