3 dead, & others injured in gory Gomoa Mprumem accident
In a harrowing accident on Thursday evening, September 5, 2024, three people lost their lives, and eight others were left in critical condition following a collision on the Mankessim-Winneba highway at Gomoa Mprumem in the Central Region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tragic incident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Hiace mini commercial bus lost control after a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to crash and catch fire. Quick intervention by firefighters from Apam and Winneba Fire Service stations prevented further fatalities, as they managed to rescue those trapped inside the burning vehicle.
The deceased have been transferred to the St. Luke Catholic Hospital Morgue, while the injured are receiving urgent medical care at the Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital.
Accident Details
A separate accident on the same day between Amoma Nkwanta and Pramposo involved a taxi traveling from Techiman to Kintampo. Due to poor road conditions, the taxi driver attempted to make way for a trailer when a construction tipper truck failed to slow down, ramming into the taxi and forcing it into the path of the oncoming trailer. The impact resulted in the deaths of the taxi driver, identified as Ogyam, and his female passenger, whose bodies were severely damaged, complicating identification efforts.
Emergency responders, including the Fire Service, Police, and road safety officials, spent over two hours completing the rescue operation. During the chaotic scene, another trailer collided with a vehicle involved in the rescue, injuring several passengers.
