Why are there so few new signings in La Liga?
Kylian Mbappe stands out as the most important signing of La Liga for the 2024/25 season so far, as reported by AFP. The summer period typically brings trials and new faces to the forefront, but this year, the latter is slow to kick off in a summer filled with nonstop competitions.
In recent years, La Liga has regained its star power with the arrivals of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, and the rise of Lamine Yamal. However, financial constraints have hindered clubs’ ability to sign other contracted players, leading to stagnation in their finances and limiting the movement of top talents.
With the ongoing European Championship, Olympic Games, and the approaching season, the Spanish market has seen minimal activity, especially among the major clubs. Real Madrid is the only one of the big three Spanish football teams in La liga to make significant moves, securing both Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.
While Real Madrid has bolstered their squad, Barcelona has yet to sign any new players. The Catalan side is keen on acquiring Nico Williams to strengthen their flanks, but financial issues have stalled this pursuit. Their alternative, Dani Olmo, has seen an initial offer rejected by RB Leipzig. Atletico Madrid, another big name in Spanish football, has only added Robin Le Normand to their defense.
