UGSRC 2024 Elections: Guru Wins University of Ghana Presidential Race

Maradona Adjei Yeboah, affectionately known as ‘Guru,’ emerged as the clear winner of the 2024 University of Ghana SRC elections, capturing 50.7% of the vote in a commanding victory that solidified his place as a campus icon. This year’s elections recorded an impressive turnout of 18,659 votes from a total of 59,629 registered voters. Amidst the competition, one name stood tall—Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as ‘Guru.’

With 50.7% of the total votes, Maradona and his vice-presidential running mate, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, clinched a commanding victory, sending a clear message to the University of Ghana student body about their mandate to lead.

From Disqualification to Victory: Maradona’s Journey

Guru’s journey to the presidency was not without its challenges. Initially disqualified by the SRC Electoral Commission, Guru’s campaign faced an early setback due to alleged technicalities. However, Maradona, known for his resilience, did not take this lying down. He filed a petition with the university’s Appeals Board, challenging the decision. In a dramatic turn of events, the Vice Dean of the university overturned his disqualification, reinstating him as a candidate just in time for the September 2024 elections.

This reversal rejuvenated Maradona’s campaign, bolstering his image as a fighter for student rights. His reinstatement came as a significant moment, rallying supporters who admired his determination and legal victory. His ability to overcome this hurdle only increased his popularity on campus, making him a formidable contender once again.
