Three Men Arrested for Hacking DVLA Electronic Records and Illegally Authenticating Licenses
Three men have been apprehended for unlawfully accessing the Drivers, Vehicle, and Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) electronic records and charging drivers a reduced fee to authenticate their licenses. The primary suspects, Delali Yevu, a 42-year-old software developer, and Sabastian Donne, a 32-year-old heavy-duty machine operator, were allegedly charging GH¢200 per authentication, significantly lower than the official fee of GH¢471. The scheme was uncovered when the DVLA noticed irregular activities on their online portal.
Yevu and Donne, along with an accomplice, Kwaku Torgbo Wise Dziedzorm, who assisted in the fraudulent activities, were brought before the Dansoman Circuit Court. The suspects were reported to have accessed the DVLA’s records on June 27, June 28, and July 2, 2024, posing as officials dispatched from the Tema office. They collected money from unsuspecting drivers under false pretenses.
The court has charged them with conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses, denying them bail as investigations continue. The police believe more individuals are involved in this fraudulent operation. This incident comes amid DVLA’s broader efforts to phase out old driving license cards and introduce new smart cards, a move that has received mixed reactions from the public.
