Otumfuo is a paramount chief, he cannot lord over another paramount chief – Dormaahene

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has strongly asserted that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, lacks the authority to appoint a paramount chief in Fiapre, a town situated in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region of Ghana.

In a recent address to his community, Nana Agyeman Badu II emphasized that although the Asantehene is recognized as a paramount chief under Ghana’s constitution, he does not possess the right to appoint another paramount chief outside his jurisdiction.

The Dormaahene criticized Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s actions, arguing that they demonstrate a blatant disregard for the customs and traditions of the people of Fiapre. He stated that such actions should not be tolerated.

Nana Agyeman Badu II clarified that the Fiaprehene pledges allegiance to the paramount chief of Odumase, who holds legitimate authority over Fiapre.

The Dormaahene vowed to resist any attempts by Otumfuo to install a chief in Fiapre, even if it means putting his life on the line.

He urged Otumfuo Osei Tutu to reconsider his actions, warning that they are creating divisions among the chiefs in the Bono Region and could potentially lead to further conflicts.

“The final authority in the chieftaincy hierarchy is the paramount chief. There is no authority beyond the paramount chief. Otumfuo is a paramount chief, so he cannot dominate another paramount chief,” Nana Agyeman Badu II stated.
