Kumawood ‘Juju’ Claims: Kalybos Recounts Terrifying Accident After On-Set Threats
Kalybos, adds voice to the ‘juju’ rumours in the Kumawood industry.
Ghanaian actor Kalybos, born Richard Kwaku Asante, has opened up about a frightening experience that seems to link to the rumors of black magic, or ‘juju,’ in the Kumawood film industry. On Game TV, he shared that while shooting a film in Kumasi, a local actor he didn’t know threatened him for coming from Accra and taking their spot.
Soon after, he was involved in a serious car accident, which he believes was related to the threat. The accident happened in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
This story adds weight to recent claims by actress Portia Asare, who said that some actors use ‘juju’ to harm others in the industry. While Kalybos doesn’t have proof that ‘juju’ caused his accident, the incident has fueled discussions about its possible role in the competitive Kumawood scene.
In response, fellow actor Kwaku Manu has advised his colleagues to be spiritually cautious. Although he doesn’t believe in ‘juju’ himself, he acknowledges that it’s a real concern for others in the industry.
