GJA orders Media General to sanction Captain Smart
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), supported by various social stakeholders, has condemned the controversial comments made by Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, of Onua TV/Onua FM regarding New Patriotic Party (NPP) voters in the upcoming elections. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, July 16, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour emphasized the gravity of Smart’s remarks and the significant ethical breach involved.
Dwumfour called on the board and management of Media General to impose immediate and appropriate sanctions on Mr. Smart. He argued that such actions would not only serve as a deterrent to other media practitioners but also enhance public confidence in Media General as a reputable organization committed to professional conduct.
Highlighting the distinction between holding leaders accountable and engaging in hate speech, Dwumfour urged all journalists to adhere to the highest professional standards to prevent unnecessary chaos and violence in the country. He called on media practitioners and organizations to be mindful of their language and reporting to ensure the stability and peace of Ghana.
