CLOGSAG Declares Nationwide Strike
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike set to commence on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
This decisive action follows a prolonged delay in finalizing a new salary structure for its members, which was supposed to be implemented from January 1, 2025.
Background
CLOGSAG’s decision to strike comes after a notice was served on October 23, 2024, highlighting the government’s failure to meet their demands by the October 31 deadline.
Despite multiple meetings, the government has yet to present a concrete offer, prompting the association to take this drastic step.
In a statement, CLOGSAG expressed frustration over the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), accusing it of acting in bad faith. “As a result of the delay in the completion of salary structure and other conditions of service, CLOGSAG members have no other option than to stay at home from November 7, 2024,” the statement read.
The strike is expected to significantly impact public services across the country, as CLOGSAG members include a wide range of civil and local government staff.
The association’s decision to sever ties with the FWSC underscores the severity of the situation and the breakdown in negotiations.
