CLOGSAG Calls 0ff Strike
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has officially called off its strike action, which began on November 7.
This decision comes in response to a High Court order mandating the cessation of the strike.
Court Intervention
In a statement issued on Monday, November 11, CLOGSAG acknowledged the court’s injunction.
“By an order of an injunction dated 3rd November, 2024, the National Labour Commission (NLC) secured an ex-parte injunction requiring CLOGSAG to call off the strike and further restraining the members of CLOGSAG from continuing with the strike,” the statement read.
Respect for the Law
CLOGSAG emphasized its commitment to the rule of law, stating, “Being a law-abiding Association, CLOGSAG has taken into cognisance the injunction order.”
“CLOGSAG hereby calls off the strike with immediate effect. CLOGSAG has decided to call off the strike due to its utmost respect for the Court and the laws of Ghana. All members are entreated to report to work.”
Background of the Strike
The strike was initially declared due to the government’s delay in finalizing a new salary structure.
CLOGSAG had announced the nationwide strike effective November 7, following an earlier statement on October 22, which anticipated that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would miss the October 31 deadline to finalize the new salary structure.
In a statement issued on November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, expressed concerns over the January 1, 2025 implementation date, deeming it unrealistic.
Legal Proceedings
The National Labour Commission (NLC) subsequently obtained an injunction against the strike.
The court order, signed by Justice Frank Aboadwe Rockson, restrained CLOGSAG and its members from continuing the strike and mandated compliance with the NLC’s directives.
CLOGSAG’s Commitment
In their statement, CLOGSAG reiterated their commitment to advocating for better conditions of service for their members, despite the legal setback.
The association assured its members of continued efforts to negotiate and secure improved working conditions.
