Akufo-Addo Warns Ghanaians: “Voting for Mahama Will Set the Country Backwards”
President Nana Akufo-Addo has passionately appealed to the youth employed by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. Addressing a forum of YEA beneficiaries in Kumasi, President Akufo-Addo launched a scathing critique of former President John Dramani Mahama, describing his tenure as an “unsuccessful” and “rejected” chapter in Ghana’s history. He emphasized that Mahama remains the only president in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to be ousted after a single term, underscoring the country’s decision not to honor him with re-election.
Akufo-Addo urged the youth to be vigilant and active in the upcoming campaign, endorsing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer. He posed a stark choice to the audience: “Which one do you prefer, an unsuccessful president or a successful vice president?” The president lauded Dr. Bawumia’s track record and his potential to propel Ghana forward with innovative and effective policies. He warned against being misled by Mahama’s bid for a comeback, asserting that Mahama had failed to deliver during his presidency and should not be given another chance.
In a related development, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry, publicly praised President Akufo-Addo for his Free SHS policy. Speaking to his congregation, the pastor, known for his outspoken nature, acknowledged the president’s achievements despite personal disagreements. Owusu-Bempah highlighted the Free SHS initiative as a significant and beneficial policy, attributing it to a divine revelation he had about the president’s positive impact on the nation. This endorsement adds another layer of support for Akufo-Addo’s administration as the political landscape heats up ahead of the elections.
