Tobinco Boss Explains Why He Waited 6 Years To Sue FDA: “He Was Too Formidable”
Dr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Group Chairman of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL), has revealed why he delayed pursuing legal action against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in 2013. Dr. Tobbin stated that his decision was influenced by the immense power wielded by Dr. Stephen Opuni, the then-FDA boss.
In 2013, the FDA under Dr. Opuni confiscated products imported by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, branding them as unwholesome. Dr. Tobbin expressed that he feared retaliating against Dr. Opuni, who was perceived as extremely influential and could have inflicted even more damage on his business.
Dr. Tobbin recounted that following the initial product seizure, the Opuni-led FDA systematically shut down all his warehouses, confiscating and destroying additional products. This oppressive treatment, according to Dr. Tobbin, led him to delay any legal action for six years, fearing further repercussions from the powerful FDA head.
