Mohammed Kudus to captain Black Stars against Sudan in AFCON 2025 Qualifier

In a significant leadership change, Mohammed Kudus will captain the Black Stars in their pivotal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan on Thursday, October 10. This decision comes as regular captain Thomas Partey and deputy Andre Ayew are unavailable.
Black Stars coach Otto Addo confirmed Kudus’s new role, highlighting the midfielder’s importance to both club and country.
Partey was forced to withdraw due to medical concerns, with Arsenal requesting further tests in London. Meanwhile, Ayew is also unavailable, paving the way for Kudus to lead the team.
Kudus, known for his exceptional skills and leadership on the field, will guide the Black Stars through these critical back-to-back matches against Sudan, coached by Kwesi Appiah.
With Ghana securing only one point from their first two qualifiers, the stakes are high as they strive to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Despite the absence of key players like Partey and Ayew, the squad remains resolute. “Now we have Sudan coming up, and playing 1-1 against Niger will serve as a lesson for us. We are going to give everything to beat Sudan both at home and away,” said Alidu Seidu ahead of the game.
Currently sitting third in Group F, the Black Stars face a must-win situation, making Thursday’s match at the Accra Sports Stadium crucial.
Following this game, the team will travel to Libya for the return fixture on October 15, as they continue their quest to keep their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes alive.
