On Friday, June 17, a raging gas tank fire destroyed a section of the Kumasi Shoe Factory near Lobab International School in Atonsu Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

Four pumps have been deployed at the scene to manage the situation, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.A gas tanker discharging fuel at the company reportedly caught fire, resulting in the explosion, according to the Daily Graphic.

While firefighters battle the flames, the area has been cordoned off by police. Eyewitnesses said the tanker was discharging gas into the company’s cylinder when it caught fire at 11 a.m. on Friday, according to the report.

The explosion reportedly caused a panic, resulting in injuries among factory workers who fled for safety.

Three people were injured in a stampede as workers rushed out of the factory after the explosion, according to the news. 

The injured people are stated to be responding well to hospital care. Two of them have been released from the hospital, but one remains in the facility.
