Kumasi: 1 dead, 3 rescued as building collapses in Sokoban

In a heartbreaking incident at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi, a one-story building collapsed early Sunday morning, October 20, resulting in the death of one person and the rescue of three others. The victims were construction workers at the site.

Swift Response from Emergency Services

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that their Kejetia Fire crew responded promptly to a distress call at 2:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered four workers trapped under the rubble.

The GNFS team immediately launched a rescue operation, successfully saving three individuals. Tragically, one person was found dead at the scene.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

The body of the deceased has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.

Authorities are now probing the cause of the collapse to determine if there were any violations of safety protocols. This incident has raised serious concerns about construction safety standards and the need for strict adherence to regulations.
