According to Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander, D.O.2 Fredrick Adu-Poku, the driver of the Toyota Vitz attempted to overtake a tricycle, leading to a collision with the O.A. Express passenger car traveling from Accra to Obuasi. Both vehicles veered off the highway and ended up in a ditch.

The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of one male and two females. The 15 injured passengers were quickly transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
