Ghanaian Star Mohammed Kudus Handed Extended Ban and £60,000 Fine for Violent Conduct

West Ham United’s Ghanaian winger, Mohammed Kudus, is facing a longer suspension following a red card incident during last month’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Originally serving a standard three-match ban, Mohammed Kudus’s suspension has now been extended by the Football Association (FA) following a decision from an independent Regulatory Commission. The 24-year-old Ghanaian international will now miss a total of five games and has been fined £60,000 ($77,286) for violent conduct.

The incident occurred in the 82nd minute of West Ham’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham on October 19. Mohammed Kudus fouled Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and was involved in an altercation, pushing both Van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr in the face. Initially issued a yellow card by referee Andy Madley, the call was upgraded to a straight red after a VAR review, automatically enforcing a three-match suspension.

The initial three-match ban saw Kudus sidelined from West Ham’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United, their 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, and their upcoming game against Everton. However, due to the FA’s extended disciplinary action, Kudus will also miss critical Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30.

The independent commission’s report cited Mohammed Kudus’s apologetic response, noting his regretful behavior and a formal apology in which he expressed being “deeply embarrassed” by his actions. West Ham United also received a £30,000 fine for failing to control their players during the incident, a charge they have acknowledged. Tottenham Hotspur, involved in the incident, had previously been fined £20,000 in October.

In a statement, West Ham expressed disappointment with the extended punishment but acknowledged the FA’s process.
