Ashaiman: 32-Year-Old Teacher Hacks Wife To Death Before Committing Suicide Over GH₵30 Bhang Money
A devastating incident has left the Ashaiman community reeling, where a 32-year-old teacher, Kojo Mensah, allegedly killed his wife, Ama Serwaa, following a dispute over GH₵30 he demanded to purchase bhang.
This tragic event has sparked urgent discussions around domestic violence and substance abuse.
According to a report by 3News, the incident occurred on Sunday evening. Neighbors reported that Mensah approached Serwaa, requesting GH₵30 to buy bhang.
When she declined, an intense argument erupted between the couple. The confrontation quickly escalated, and in a fit of rage, Mensah allegedly drew a machete and attacked Serwaa, fatally wounding her. He struck her multiple times on the neck, leaving her gravely injured.
Community’s Desperate Efforts
Neighbors, who heard the commotion and Serwaa’s cries for help, rushed to her aid. Despite their efforts to transport her to the Ashaiman Polyclinic, she was declared dead upon arrival.
The community’s grief was compounded by the brutality of the attack, with Serwaa suffering multiple wounds to her neck.
A Tragic end
Following the attack, Mensah fled the scene. His body was later discovered early Monday morning, hanging from a tree outside his home. Authorities believe he took his own life shortly after the incident.
The local assemblyman, who confirmed the tragedy, noted that he had mediated between the couple on several occasions in the past due to ongoing marital disputes.
“This is a tragic loss,” the assemblyman commented. “We’ve had to intervene in their disagreements before, but nothing could have prepared us for this.”
According to him, Mensah had frequently threatened to harm his wife in past arguments, raising concerns among those close to the family.
Ongoing Investigation
The Ashaiman Police Station has since registered the case, with officials currently conducting an investigation.
The bodies of both Mensah and Serwaa have been taken to the Tema General Hospital morgue, where they await postmortem examinations.
